Moira the Moniaive Moggy is a gentle collection of illustrated children’s books and creative activities inspired by the village of Moniaive in Dumfries & Galloway.
Created, written and illustrated by Keith Shaw Buckley, the stories follow Moira, a small ginger cat, as she explores the village and surrounding countryside, meets new characters and discovers the kindness of those around her.
In Book 1Finding Her Place, Moira arrives unexpectedly in Moniaive and quietly explores her unfamiliar surroundings. As the day unfolds, small acts of kindness help her begin to wonder whether this welcoming village might become somewhere she can call home.
In Book 2Finding Friends, Moira ventures into the snowy countryside, where she meets Tango the horse and Beryl the sheep. Their adventure becomes a gentle story about friendship, courage, trust and helping one another through unexpected moments.
Children can continue exploring Moira’s world in Moira the Moniaive Moggy Activity Book: Volume 1, featuring colouring pages, puzzles, word searches, crosswords, a maze, creative drawing activities and more, all inspired by the first two stories.
The storybooks are written for children aged 4–8, while their calm storytelling, detailed watercolour-style illustrations and recognisable local settings have also found a warm response from adult readers.
Although Moira is a fictional character, many of the places shown in her adventures are inspired by real locations in and around Moniaive. Each title can be enjoyed on its own while gently adding to Moira’s growing world.
